Dramaturgy and circus seminar: Where Dance Meets Circus
What happens when dance and circus share the stage? On 18 October 2024, Festival Circolo is hosting a special seminar, Where Dance Meets Circus. During this seminar, artists and dramaturgs will examine how dramaturgy can transform not only the creative process but also the audience’s experience of art and dance.
Led by Marjolein Vogels, a renowned dancer, choreographer, and artistic director of the platform WhyNot, the seminar will feature several speakers and workshop leaders who will guide participants through a comprehensive programme. Key questions include: How do you make the audience part of your narrative? And what happens when a piece is labeled ‘circus’ rather than ‘dance’? Does this shift the audience’s interpretation?
The programme includes a panel discussion with experts such as Pia Meuthen (Panama Pictures), Dries VanWalle (Sinking Sideways), Camille Paycha, Leon Borgens (Un loup pour l’Homme), Lucho Smit (Festival Circolo), and Bram Graafland. This will be followed by practical workshops where participants can explore a variety of dramaturgical methods and tools. The focus will be on the interaction between space, movement, and audience.
This event attracts a broad audience, including choreographers, performers, dramaturgs, and programmers. Interested in the full programme and want to join? Register here.
