Corpo Máquina Society brings together diverse groups through movement and performance with radical openness. Under the direction of artistic leader Guilherme Miotto, the company continuously explores what ‘dance and movement’ can mean. With their Instinctive Performance approach, they create powerful performances that push boundaries. At Festival Circolo 2024, the company presents the performance Poles and the system hack Unpunished Youth.
Poles
Intimate dance monologue originally created for pole dancing virtuoso Yvonne Smink. Translated into the energetic body language of three freerunners. From a searching mindset, Alex Fito Ayala, Ahmed Zariohi and Tim van den Bos de Lucas play with gravity and vulnerability.
Due to an injury of Yvonne and especially for Festival Circolo, Guilherme Miotto stretches the limits of the original solo choreography with the adventurous and risky body control of the freerunners. Thus, the examination of Yvonne’s subdued body language in 11 frames takes on a new dimension with the energy of three men’s bodies. In dialogue with Isaac Poels’ psychedelic soundscore on the synthesizer; subtle, supportive and questioning.
Unpunished Youth
An ongoing project by Corpo Máquina in which young people with and without art experience discover their shared freedom of movement. In the setting of Poles, a life-size steel climbing frame, an experiment in movement and challenging each other ensues. This time with a group of young people picking up a new life in the Netherlands. Their unfailing curiosity, tenacity and zest for life is insanely inspiring. And here, too, the three freerunners play an important role. Under the inspiring leadership of Guilherme Miotto, everyone together creates an experience of security. Using the body as a base, the system hack Unpunished Youth is all about cooperation, discovery and pushing boundaries. Hidden talent finds its way and is expressed.
