More and more artists are collaborating with dramaturgs, but how do these collaborations function, and why are they important? We will delve into how performance spaces influence artistic decisions and whether labeling a piece as ‘circus’ rather than ‘dance’ shifts audience interpretation. Together, we will explore common themes in performances and consider whether dance and circus can break away from traditional narratives. In doing so, we ask: can dramaturgy bridge the gap between a maker’s intent and the audience’s expectations? Join us to experiment with different dramaturgical approaches and tools.

Keynote Speaker: Marjolein Vogels is a Dutch dancer, choreographer, programmer, and teacher, as well as the artistic leader of the performance and dance platform WhyNot.
