Droplines

What do you do when something goes wrong in the middle of a performance? Do you wish the ground would swallow you up? Run away? Pretend nothing happened? Like the rest of us, jugglers have all kinds of tricks for hiding their mistakes. They act as though it was intentional, blame someone else or try to distract the audience. Tall Tales calls these concealing movements ‘droplines’. In the performance, three jugglers guide you through the different droplines of their craft.

With humour, self-mockery and a healthy sense of perspective, they knock the infallible circus artist off their pedestal. What remains is something recognisably human: the fear of failure, the instinct to hide it and the relief that comes when you no longer have to. The result is a loving ode to the fallible human being and a celebration of imperfection.
